Location

The realization of a new 380kv line in the port of Antwerp by order of Elia. Over a distance of more than 250 km, 55 new pylons were built and connected to six two-beam conductors. In addition, a new connection was made to the existing Doel-Mercator line and phase changes were made at Elia's Doel and Mercator substations.

The project had a cost of +/- €25 000 000.

Challenges

Project in the port of Antwerp with many stakeholders: business parks, waterways, Infrabel, city of Antwerp, road authorities. Clear communication and coordination was crucial. This also made the planning of works with impact crucial. Work was carried out around and on busy freeways.

Because of the busy buildings in the port area, the hoisting of large mast sections had to be mapped out in detail and organized with contractors and surrounding companies. Many protections such as scaffolding, cranes and road closures were realized to ensure that the works proceeded in complete safety.

The role of hop

Hops assisted in site coordination for subcontractors EQOS Energy and CI2000 who executed this project as a JV. Hop supported the communication flow between the two firms. Furthermore, hop supported the communication between Elia and the contractors, capturing the interests of both parties. Hereby hop also I supported the cost follow-up of this project. Hop also handled much of the communication to subcontractors and external stakeholders.

Hop provided technical advice, drafted certain work methods and plans. Hop rented some materials to support the site.
