Scheldelaan

Project details

  • Dates: 2021

  • Builder: Elia

  • Client: EQOS ENERGY

  • Project scale: +/- €2 million

Context

The 150kV line between Elia stations Zwijndrecht and Scheldelaan will undergo a retrofit and the conductors will be replaced by new, higher-performance HTLS conductors. These conductors with a carbon fiber core can be installed at higher tensile strength, which means they sag less. Also, their carrying capacity is up to 150% of the old conductors. The project was brought to fruition by EQOS Energy.

Challenges

This high-voltage line runs partially through SEVESO zone, over, among others, the industrial sites of INEOS and EXXON in Zwijndrecht. For this, specific protection measures were provided to safeguard the gas installations during the pulling of the conductors. This line also crosses the Scheldt. Good coordination between, among others, these companies and the Flemish Waterway were important factors. This line is also located around the construction zone of the Oosterweel works. This also required good coordination between the construction sites.

The role of hop

Hop supported EQOS Energie in site coordination, both internally and in communication with Elia. Hop was mainly responsible for the coordination with relevant subcontractors and stakeholders. Through our knowledge network and experience from previous projects, we were able to quickly reach the correct people. Hop also walked along in the day-to-day organization of the works where we advised where necessary.

We followed up the process from site preparation to the end of execution and completion.
